In Grade 1, we’ll build a solid foundation by focusing on all the essential skills you need to start playing with confidence. You’ll learn the eight must-know open chords, master common strumming patterns, and play along with loads of fun songs. Along the way, we’ll also work on building finger strength and coordination, so switching between chords becomes second nature. By the end of Grade 1, you’ll be strumming and playing songs with ease, ready to take on new challenges!
In Grade 2, we’ll expand your skills with a range of new chords, including the challenging F chord, plus 7th chords, power chords, and embellishments like sus chords. You’ll also build on strumming patterns, learning to groove and add rhythm to your playing. We’ll dive into new styles, exploring rock and blues rhythms, lead guitar basics, and acoustic fingerpicking techniques. By the end of Grade 2, you’ll be familiar with a variety of styles and techniques, playing with confidence!
In Grade 3, we’ll get you ready to step confidently into Intermediate playing. We’ll focus on refining your rhythm, improving technique, and reinforcing all the essential chords you’ve learned so far. You’ll add new skills like playing duets, learning melodies, and even starting to play songs by ear. Plus, we’ll deepen your understanding of how music works. By the end of Grade 3, you’ll be a well-rounded player, ready to unleash your musicianship and tackle more advanced material!
I wanted to experience my Beginner Course from a true beginner's perspective, so I decided to start guitar from scratch—left-handed! Enter Nitsuj (that’s “Justin” spelled backward!). In these lessons, you’ll see real recordings of my practice sessions as I work through my own recommended module routines. Follow along as I tackle Grades 1 and 2, showing exactly how long it takes to progress.
Practical Music Theory connects your guitar skills with your creativity right from the start. Unlike the dry, confusing theory you may have encountered before, this course teaches why music works through practical, hands-on examples—just how I wish I'd learned it! Dive in, understand the music more deeply, and start playing freely across the fretboard. Ready to give it a try? Start with Grade 1, and let's make music!
